How Much Does Moss Wall Art Weigh?
Moss wall art is generally lightweight, especially when compared to glass-covered frames or solid wood panels.
The total weight depends on a few key factors:
-
Size of the artwork
-
Density of the moss
-
Type of backing material (wood, composite, or metal)
Most small to medium moss art pieces can be safely mounted using screws without needing to locate wall studs.
At wabimoss, our 18×18 moss artwork weighs 6 pounds, our 18×36 artwork weighs 10 pounds, and our 36×54 weight 30 pounds. We use a light 1/8th plywood backer on our artwork, which is how we keep the weight low.
Tools You May Need to Hang Moss Wall Art
You won’t need anything complicated. In most cases, common household tools are enough.
Recommended tools include:
-
Measuring tape
-
Level
-
Wall anchors or screws
-
Drill or screwdriver
-
Stud finder (optional, for larger pieces)
Many moss artworks arrive with pre-installed hanging hardware, which simplifies the process even further. At Wabimoss, we dont include any hanging hardware because our moss artwork has a 1″ lip along the entire back of the artwork. Our frames are so strong that the artwork can be hung on this lip.
Step-by-Step: How to Install Moss Wall Art
Hanging moss wall art follows the same basic steps as hanging framed art:
-
Measure and mark where the artwork will hang
-
Install wall anchors or screws based on your wall type
-
Level the mounting points to ensure straight placement
-
Hang the artwork securely using the provided hardware(if not a wabimoss piece)
-
Check alignment and make small adjustments if needed
Once installed, moss wall art does not require any additional support or maintenance.
For Wabimoss artwork installs specifically, you just need two drywall screws- screwed into the wall. Then just set the artwork on the screws- no hardway or anchors needed. For larger artwork we recommend screwing directly through the moss into the wall with 2.5″ drywall screws. The plywood backer catches the screwheads, the moss will hide the screws. This will suck the artwork to the wall, so that it will not warp.
Wall Types That Work Well for Moss Wall Art
Preserved moss art can be mounted on most indoor wall surfaces, including:
-
Drywall
-
Plaster
-
Wood
-
Concrete (with appropriate masonry anchors)
As long as the correct anchors are used, textured or solid walls typically pose no problem. We have had customers even apply sticky back tape with a mounting hook to a tile wall. Smaller artworks are light enough that this can be a good solution if you cant make a hole in the wall.
